Blainville, April 4, 2025 – Since 2017, residents of Lavaltrie have been able to rely on an eco-friendly and efficient service to repurpose their cedar clippings. Once again this year, the City of Lavaltrie is renewing its partnership with Arbressence, reaffirming its commitment to promoting sustainable practices within its territory.

In 2024, a total of 424 collections were carried out, diverting just over 44 tons of cedar clippings from landfills. Although the participation rate reached just over 7%, the goal for 2025 is to go even further! With an increase of nearly 3% in collections compared to 2023, the City is encouraging even more residents to do their part for the environment.

A simple action, real benefits

To use this 100% free service, Lavaltrie residents can schedule a collection online between May 1 and October 31 by filling out the form available on Arbressence’s website. They simply need to place their cedar clippings in bags or in a pile at the edge of their driveway, and they will be picked up within 24 to 48 hours. Once delivered to Arbressence’s distillery, the clippings are shredded and distilled to extract cedar essential oil. The remaining brown matter from the distillation process is then distributed to local farmers, who use it as infill in their fields.

A collective commitment for a sustainable future

By participating in this program, citizens not only help reduce green waste but also lower the costs associated with residual materials management and promote the circular economy. Lavaltrie stands out for its environmental commitment and hopes to see this movement grow even more in 2025.
