Recycle your cedar trimmings in 3 easy steps

3 Steps to Prepare for a Collection

For over 20 years, Arbressence has been a partner to dozens of cities and municipalities, offering a free cedar trimming collection service. To facilitate this collection, it is essential to properly prepare your cedar trimmings. Here are the 3 steps to follow so that we can come by and collect your cedar trimmings.

Step 1: Trim (or have someone trim) your cedars

This is a common question: every week, we are asked if we also offer cedar hedge trimming services. Arbressence specializes in the collection and transformation of cedar. Trimming hedges is a profession in itself! Anyone who has ever trimmed their hedge knows that this task is both physical and technical! If you have chosen to work with a landscaper, be sure to tell them that you wish to use our services so that your trimmings are 100% recycled. We work with over 1,000 landscapers, so it is very likely that they already know us!

Also, make sure they are aware of our collection criteria:

  • The diameter of the branches must be less than 1 ½ inches (about the size of the cardboard tube inside a roll of toilet paper).
  • The trimmings must follow these proportions: at least 70% green foliage and at most 30% branches.

Step 2: Prepare the trimmings for collection

Once your cedars are trimmed, you need to move the trimmings so they are accessible when our driver comes to collect them.

Option 1: In Bags

  • Choose appropriate bags: Use sturdy, large bags to contain your cedar trimmings.
  • Fill the bags: Place the cedar trimmings in the bags, ensuring you maintain the 70% green foliage and 30% branches ratio. Do not overload the bags to avoid tearing.
  • Close the bags: Make sure the bags are securely closed to facilitate handling and transport.
  • Place the bags: Put the bags filled with cedar trimmings on your property, near the road, so they are easily accessible for collection.

Option 2: In a Pile (loose, directly on the ground)

  • Gather the trimmings: Collect all the cedar trimmings into a single pile. Ensure the pile maintains the 70% green foliage and 30% branches ratio.
  • Place the pile: Put the pile of trimmings in your driveway, near the road, so it is easily accessible for our driver.
  • Ensure accessibility: Make sure the pile is clearly visible and easily accessible for the Arbressence collection team.

Step 3: Schedule the Collection

You are now at the easiest step: placing a collection request. You can do this in two ways:

  1. By filling out the collection form available on our website. It only takes 2 to 5 minutes to complete and the information required is simple.
  2. By calling us at the number corresponding to your region. Our collection planners will ask you a few questions to add your address to our route.
    • Laurentides, Laval, Lanaudière, and Montérégie: 450-434-7512
    • Mauricie: 819-740-2436
    • Centre-du-Québec: 819-752-5952

The best part is that the collection will be carried out within 24 to 48 hours following the receipt of your form or call!

Please Note

If the collection conditions are not met, a non-collection notice will be left at your door. It will then be necessary to follow the instructions on the non-collection notice to rectify the situation and allow for the collection of your cedar trimmings. Make sure to follow these guidelines to ensure an effective collection.

And After?

Once collected, what happens to your trimmings?

Thus, the process revalorizes your cedar trimmings 100% in a circular economy perspective!

Thank you for making an eco-friendly choice by using our cedar trimming collection service. You are helping to divert thousands of tons of material that would otherwise be burried in a landfill!
